Taking care in the real world

How many times have we heard stories from others and gone “oh, it’s not only me” and felt far less alone? I know I have. The idea of sharing these stories is to normalise the idea of taking care.

The filmed stories are from awesome, real conversations. It was just me, my trusty mobile phone, and amazing women sharing how life is for them right now and how they take care. The written stories are your wonderful stories – the ones shared through this website.

This gorgeous collection of stories is only the beginning. There are many, many more stories to tell – including yours. New stories will be loaded often – follow us on social media for updates.

Written Story Collection

These are your self care stories, contributed here on the Take Care website.

How is life for you right now in three words?

Chaotic and ever-changing.

How do you take care of you?

Small things such as putting on a nice facial oil and lip balm before I fall into bed, stopping in the evenings and giving my husband a good proper hug and putting on my comfy clothes when I get home (even pj pants at 3pm sometimes)…

What would you say to other women about taking care, and self care?

Start small, it all adds up. But find what really helps you, everyone has their little quirks that need to be honoured!

Jane

How is life for you right now in three words?

Turbulent, unpredictable, exciting.

How do you take care of you?

Connecting with friends, being honest to myself, acknowledging hard days and working towards a positive attitude. I like set goals for myself as a reminder of the things I want to achieve, it allows me to check in and reset on sometimes confusing feelings. I try to start my day with an activity and I am always reminding myself to slow down and enjoy it!

What would you say to other women about taking care, and self care?

To be honest with yourself, acknowledge if you are not feeling great, and let that feeling wash over you. Find some YOU time – it may be running, painting, having a tea, dinner with mates, a wine in front of the TV…

How is life for you right now in three words?

Pretty darn busy!

How do you take care of you?

I have come to understand what my anchor is when faced with life challenges, which is physical exercise.

What would you say to other women about taking care, and self care?

It’s absolutely critical to have something for you…whatever that may be…a massage, sewing, running, reading…..whatever it is that doesn’t sap energy, but creates and gives you energy that can take you through the day or the week. If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care and give to others. xxx
